DESCRIPTION
The goal for this project was to create an original 3D sculpt of a scientific subject, using standard 3D sculpting techniques, and colour/stage the final render with working UV maps.
I did my undergraduate honours thesis on the freshwater ecology of caddisfly larvae, and wanted to carry on working with them for this project. In particular, I was interested in depicting caddisfly larvae respiration, which is delightfully unique. Although almost all caddisflies build cases during their larval stages, different species of caddisfly use different materials to build cases for different functionalities. However, nearly universally, the cases aid in respiration.
This short video was designed to be a teaching aid, helping visualize the movement of the caddisfly in flowing water during respiration.
