DESCRIPTION
Students were challenged to create an infographic displaying complex scientific subject matter.
Invasive species pose a major risk to the vibrant biodiversity of the Great Lakes ecosystem, causing habitat loss, proliferation of disease, and major declines in native flora and fauna. Since the establishment of the region as a major trading hub, most invasions have been human-mediated; in recent years, however, extensive efforts have been made to restore balance to affected environments.
Using data from Great Lakes Aquatic Nonindigenous Species Information System (GLANSIS), I created this infographic to serve as an introduction to the history, origin, and impact of non-native species in the Great Lakes region, as well as current measures being taken to combat them.
